    Disobedient Objects

    Sat 26 July 2014–Sun 1 February 2015

    2014HD3907

Disobedient Objects showcases collective creativity that defies standard definitions of art and design exploring the powerful role that objects play in movements for social change, demonstrating how political activism drives a wealth of design ingenuity.
The exhibition focuses on the period from the late 1970s to the present, with an extensive range of objects from all over the world on display, from Chilean folk art textiles that document political violence, a graffiti-writing robot through to giant inflatable cobblestones thrown at demonstrations.

Constable: The Making of a Master

    Sat 20 September 2014–Sun 11 January 2015

    e58820c1-8e6a-46e1-9fc7-a6c34281ca8d-1020x766

This major exhibition reveals how Constable combined a homage to the old masters with a revolutionary approach to capturing light and atmosphere. Discover the method behind the masterpieces as Constable’s most famous paintings are reunited with his ground-breaking preparatory oil sketches. Also on display will be works from the artist’s personal collection – a vital resource for his own practice – as well as engravings of his designs made in the last decade of Constable’s life to secure his lasting legacy.

In his illustrious career, Horst traversed the worlds of art, fashion, theatre and high society and was one of Vogue’s star photographers. This exhibition presents his most iconic fashion images and explores Horst’s less well-known work alongside his creative process, influences and legacy as a master photographer.

    • At London Art Portfolio you are encouraged to seek inspiration everywhere, whatever stirs your passion, and afterwards introduced to an imaginative range of materials and techniques to visualise your ideas. The process was great fun and everyone on the course was really friendly and bounced off on each other’s skills and ideas. It was a pleasure to be there!

    • Thanks to this course, I began to understand the value of practising and honing your craft. It is important to know how to build a project from the ground up, with time and perseverance, but it is also important to back up your ideas with practiced skill.

    • I’m currently an undergraduate student studying Architecture. After failing my first year I began to attend one-to-one tutorials at London Art Portfolio. After attending tutorials for a year I ended happily with a first and now moving onto second year!

    • At first I was uncertain of my own abilities and I lacked confidence. That is why I decided to seek the expertise of Julia at London Art Portfolio. She made me feel comfortable from the very beginning and starting from our first one-to-one tutorial I began to develop my drawing skills. She made sure that throughout our time together we explored different mediums, techniques and approaches.
