The Evening Painting Class is designed to enrich and broaden the various skill-sets of the participants. Develop your work as a fine art practitioner in the field of drawing towards painting step by step, on this exciting art class. Enhance and develop your portfolio through rigorous draftsmanship, painting skills and techniques and methods of work. Broaden your thinking and sources of inspiration. This painting class welcomes people from all backgrounds and levels of experience.
During the ten-week painting workshop, we will consider the history of western Art, as well as Theatre, and their implications for drawing, painting and composition. We will explore theatrics in painters from Bruegel, Titian and Caravaggio through to more modern movements such as Futurism and Expressionism. Their very different modes of figuration produce interesting questions throughout this painting class programme. Explore different colour palettes and application of paint!
Pictures can be like stage sets, with their protagonists, settings and props. This art class offers a series of painting workshops where we will consider the following:
- How does a painting become a theatrical event?
- How can figures within paintings interact with each other and their surroundings?
- Is complex narrative worth trying to achieve, or is it preferable to give those who populate the painting much more basic, primal roles?
During the evening painting class programme, we will investigate and debate these questions through drawing and paint. Students will be encouraged to carry out independent research investigating the crossovers between painting and theatre. This is a very exciting process which makes it quite a unique art class to enrol on!
