Course Outline
The Perspective Drawing Evening Class offers a clear understanding of linear perspective, which is a necessary aspect of accurate drawing. This evening class is the perfect introduction to linear perspective drawing. It is designed to enhance your knowledge of one, two and three point perspective and how to present depth and volume in images.
The Perspective Drawing Evening Class is suitable for all levels: artists looking for a way of introducing depth and volume into their pictures; art students and potential art students – architecture, 3D design, theatre and set design, exhibition design; students of art history who want a practical insight into this significant aspect of Western art. We would like to highlight that this is also ideal for anyone struggling with a representation of a design, for example interior design such as a kitchen, or garden/landscape design.
The aim of this evening class is to gain an understanding of this technical skill of perspective drawing, with a view to applying this knowledge to improve everyday drawing skills. It is the ideal evening class for building up a portfolio step-by-step.
What you will learn
Through this course you will:
- Improve your understanding of one, two and three point perspective.
- Measure proportion and scale accurately when drawing.
- Understand how to draw a circle or semi-circle in receding perspective as a semi-circle or ellipse.
- Discover how three vanishing points allow a more flexible view of a structure than one or two.
- Make a picture from a technical drawing.
- Accentuate the illusion of depth and volume by adding colour and tone.
How you will learn
Through technical demonstrations and presentations you will:
- Follow and create step-by-step drawings of simple structures.
- Understand the importance of vanishing points.
- Build confidence drawing parallel lines and convergence.
- Extend structures vertically, horizontally and obliquely.
- Develop drawings further utilising a range of mediums such as tracing paper, acetate, etc.
- Learn how colour can enhance depth within a perspective drawing.
- Utilise photography and the projector.
- Benefit from projected presentations.
The perspective drawing evening class programme is based at the London Art Portfolio studios next to Tower bridge. You will also have the opportunity to spend time drawing and photographing local buildings such as museums and other famous landmarks like St. Katherine Docks along the South Bank which is close by.
