Course Outline

There are two main techniques used to create garments – flat pattern making and draping. Fashion draping is a playful approach to creating garments by shaping fabric directly onto the mannequin. Through this process of draping you can visualise your designs in a more immediate way, controlling the material and shape closely in order to achieve the desired effect.

This Fashion Draping Evening Class is designed as an accessible introduction to the practice of draping on the mannequin. Each week you will approach draping from a different perspective; following examples from classic designers such as Madame Vionnet, Madame Gres and Christian Dior. You will learn basic fashion draping principles and practice various creative techniques that you can use to create your own garments beyond the course.

This Fashion Draping Evening Class is the perfect opportunity for fashion students and potential fashion students who want to gain new skills and improve their portfolio, as well as for anyone interested in fashion and garment making who would like to play with fabrics. No previous pattern making experiences or sewing skills are required.
