Somewhere – The Horse Hospital Gallery
If you’re looking for an art gallery that’s a little bit different to the modern white walls and tiled floors of your average contemporary art space then look no further than The Horse Hospital at Colonnade, Bloomsbury (WC1N 1JN). The three-floored building was built in 1797 and used as a public stables. Over 200 years later, the still unspoilt building of red brick (with cobbled floors inside) is now a progressive arts venue that has been providing gallery space for film, fashion, music, talks, performances and art events since 1993. Described as underground and avantgarde, there is always something intriguing to view within the century old walls.
The current show called ‘Sexy Time’ (part of their Scala Beyond season) is both a book launch and exhibition that celebrates pornographic movie posters from the 1970s and promises a bright and colourful tease for the eyes. If you’re interested in the gallery’s shows you can see a list of their current and upcoming shows on their website www.thehorsehospital.com, phone 02078333644 or follow them on Twitter at @horsehospital. The gallery is open Mon-Sat 12-6pm.
