Easter Art & Design Taster Course (3 Day)

What you will learn

Within this framework of the painting-as-stage set, the Summer workshops will introduce students to:

• The fundamentals of drawing and painting, through observational exercises as well as working from photographs, memory and the imagination.
• The opportunity to work with paint, if desired.
• Line, tone, composition and colour that will all be explored, with reference to Art History.
• Methods of work that will encourage students to develop an independent sensibility within the loose framework of pictorial representation.
• How to develop their own unique system of making drawings as preparatory work for paintings.
• The exploration of a range of painting techniques and media.

Ultimately, students will gain control over both the form and the content of their own work as they progress through the Summer Drawing and Painting Class programme, ideal for practicing artists searching for new methods of work and inspiration, plus students looking to build up a fresh dynamic portfolio during their holiday breaks.

How you will learn

Through technical demonstrations students will:   

• Build confidence in attaining and extending a range of drawing skills and mediums.
• Learn how drawing can clarify complex, playful compositions in paint.
• Understand the integral role preparatory work plays when making paintings.
• Learn how colours can be thickened, diluted and mixed.
• Experience live models and still life setups that will enable students to brush up on their drawing skills.
• Benefit from detailed slide shows that will ensure that students gain a thorough insight into both Art History and the world of contemporary painting.

This course is designed to enhance and broaden the participants’ various skill sets. Step by step, through each of the three days, you can improve and enhance your portfolio using a range of fundamental drawing and design techniques to discover which field you enjoy more. This is a great way to learn from other participants and get to know new creative friends.

We will refer to a range of art movements and artists and designers for inspiration. Tutors have visually stimulating powerpoint presentations to assist your research in this way you will feel very engaged with the course each day
