Philip Luu, born in London. Completed his studies at Westminster University in Fashion design. He has worked for fashion houses such as Richard Nicoll, Nicolas Oakwell, Chalayan and Tom Ford before going freelance as a pattern cutter. He Currently works on projects with independent brands and designers and is in the process of working on his own new collection.
Philip is specialised in pattern cutting and garment sampling. He is also trained in the design development, technical drawings and fashion illustration.
At London Art Portfolio Philip teaches fashion design research, design development, draping on the mannequin, realisation of design and pattern cutting. Sessions in sewing and garment construction are also delivered, particularly for Degree level fashion design students who are in need of extended support throughout their degree programmes. Apart from tutoring at London Art Portfolio, Philip is often invited in to be a guest lecturer at a range of London universities and has been teaching for several years with Fashion Awareness Direct, where they hold an annual competition for young aspiring fashion designers, as well as teaching Fashion Design at London Art Portfolio.
Philip teaches on both the Portfolio Course and 1-1 Tutorials which can be delivered in the evenings too and over some weekends, depending on his availability. He is an extremely patient tutor who knows how to take you through the step by step process of pattern cutting and machine skills. He is a top pattern cutter!
